Sarim has been working in the field of sexual and reproductive health and rights since 2013, starting as a volunteer with a local organization working across issues. Sarim was one of the first to raise his voice for the inclusion of sexual and gender minorities in SRHR projects in his region. He worked as a youth social coordinator, promoting the empowerment and rights of young people. Sarim is also a Youth advocate for Sexual and Reproductive Health & Rights for Rutgers Pakistan’s Youth National Advocacy Alliance. He has taken part in the United Nations Universal Periodic Review process by contributing to a report submission on SRHR issues faced by young people in Pakistan.
Sarim has also worked on different research projects aimed at understanding and highlighting the issues of marginalized communities, e.g. Antecedents of joining the transgender community and reciprocal perceptions; Feminist representation in Pakistani cinema; Understanding eunuchs through Pakistani television.
Sarim wants to use research-based advocacy to help realize the sexual and reproductive health and rights of marginalized communities. He hopes to bring innovation and creativity to SRHR awareness raising and advocacy.
