Isabel is a young feminist and sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) advocate. In 2014 she became involved in a local grassroots feminist movement called RIAS (Red de Información por el Aborto Seguro) that aims to provide safe abortion information to women in Venezuela and to destigmatize abortion. Isabel then became an intern with a local NGO working for women’s empowerment where she worked with young mothers and provided Comprehensive Sexuality Education as a peer educator.
Currently, Isabel is a Youth and Adolescents Program Specialist with the Civil Association of Family Planning (PLAFAM), one of the member associations of the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) in the Western Hemisphere Region. In this role, Isabel promotes youth participation in defense of SRHR through peer education and facilitates youth and adolescent access to youth-friendly sexual and reproductive health services.
Isabel graduated from Universidad Central de Venezuela. She has Bachelor of Psychology, with a Major in Social Psychology. Her academic research included an analysis of women’s experiences of institutionalized feminism in the framework of a gender-based public policy.
Isabel loves cats, chocolate cake, reading and spending weekends watching movie marathons (Lord of the Ring, Star Wars, Harry Potter, the Marvel Universe, and Wes Anderson’s filmography).
