The Youth Coalition is one of the core partners of the Vienna Youth Force and as such we are organizing many exciting events for the youth delegates of AIDS 2010.
YC members will be facilitating workshops, leading sessions, speaking and moderating at different panels and advocating for human rights, health resources and harm reduction.
About IAC and the Vienna Youth Force
The International AIDS Conference (IAC) is the largest health-related event in the world and takes place every two years. IACs highlight the most important issues in terms of science, leadership and community participation on the global response to the HIV pandemic. Young people from all over the world have been using this important platform for the last 4 editions in order to learn, share and advocate. The XVIII Conference (AIDS 210) will not be the exception and many activities are being planned for a coalition of youth organizations under the umbrella of the Vienna Youth Force.
The Vienna Youth Force was launched after AIDS 2008 and is a global platform for organizations that focus on HIV as well as on youth sexual and reproductive health and rights. The organizations include Advocates for Youth, Community Forum Austria, the Global Youth Coalition on HIV/AIDS (GYCA), the International Federation of Medical Students’ Associations (IFMSA), the World AIDS Campaign, Youth Coalition for Sexual and Reproductive Rights, YouAct, Y-PEER, CHOICE for Youth and Sexuality and Youth R.I.S.E supported by the International AIDS Society which is the main convener of the IACs.
Together, the Vienna YouthForce organizations are putting together youth activities prior to and during the Conference such as the Youth Pre-Conference, a Youth Reception, an advocacy campaign and the Youth Commitments Desk. The Youth Pre-Conference is a meeting that will bring together 350 young activists and researchers from 100 different countries that will be attending youth-led workshops and sessions for three days in order to prepare delegates for the main Conference. All the activities are organized in partnership with other activists and organizations who voluntarily participate on the different committees that develop all the ideas and plans of the YouthForce.
The advocacy campaign of the Vienna YouthForce this year focuses on the 3 HRs: human rights, harm reduction and health resources. The first message focuses on creating better policies and programs against the stigma and discrimination, the second about increasing and improving access to harm reduction services for injected drug users and the third one, health resources, on the technical and financial support that is needed in order to scale up the response to the HIV pandemic, in particular through fully funding the Global Fund to fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.
